We visited my parents this fall and the girls got to play in a very big pile of leaves that their grandpa had left specifically for that purpose. If you look closely in this picture you can see Daughter #1. I don’t think Daughter #2 is in this picture, but it’s entirely possible that she’s just so buried that she can’t be seen.
The other picture that stood out for me as I was looking through my phone recently was this one. A month or so ago I was working in my office while the girls were coloring with markers in the other room. I came out and saw that Daughter #2 had gotten marker in her hair. Katie makes sure that we get the washable markers, so I wasn’t overly concerned until Daughter #2 told me that she’d done it on purpose because she thought blue hair was prettier than blonde. I thought the colored lock of hair was a teenage thing…

The girls are growing up in a society that changes so fast, that trying to keep up with the fads, I got lost. Don’t feels to bad about blue hair, my Grandson turns 10 in April, and has had blue hair and a mahogany red. His Sister, who is 11, but will turn 12 in a couple of weeks, had the same colors , but at one time she had black on the under side also, and her 16 year old daughter came home from school with her red hair bleached out and really white (Step Mother is a Beautician and had permission). My daughters oldest son did a jet black, top of the head only, tall mohawk with about 6 inch long Spikes and the rest was shaved. Thank God my other 2 children don’t let their kids do that. Z almost gave Jim (my husband) a heart attack, but then he shock his head and asked “How am I going to eat my dinner with all that glue in there? All the glue and brains are not very tasty and ‘I am hungry for dem dar brains.’ ” as he pretended to be a zombie. What a trip. Your daughters will out grow the weird hair colors before to long. I know they are both 5/6 and younger, but I bet they are really smart. Thank you for the books and I look forward to reading them all. I first have to find the ones that came before this latest one. I have some but like to read them in the order written. Sorry I am rambling and should probably put this on WordPress, but still have not finished setting my page up. I don’t understand the Website line so left it blank. 🙂

It’s true, the fads seem to come and go crazy quickly. I get in trouble for pretending to be a zombie at my house, but I’ll have to remember that tactic in case I end up needing it a decade or so from now. 🙂
I think you’re smart to want to read the books in order–I always try to do the same whenever I pick up a new series so that none of the suspense or surprises are ruined. That’s actually one of the best parts of this new world of digital publishing. Back when I was growing up, it wasn’t uncommon to see a book in a bookstore that looked really interesting, and then realize that the bookstore didn’t have the first couple of books in stock. Now nothing ever needs to go out of print!

That is so precious. Reminds me of an episode with my granddaughter when she was 4. She had a habit of going to the refrigerator an just looking to see if there was anything she wanted. When told that she had to ask for permission she came back not less than two minutes later and confronted me. When told no she promptly said ,” But I asked!!. I just wanted to bust out laughing but couldn’t.

That’s a great story! Daughter #2 has recently been saying “but I want what I want” a lot lately. We’ve been trying to teach her that just because she wants something doesn’t mean that she’ll get it. It’s amazing just how literal kids that age are. They figure that once they’ve jumped through all of the hoops we put in front of them that they should be able to get what they want. 🙂
In your place I probably wouldn’t have been able to stop myself from laughing. 🙂
