Cover Reveal for Hunted

Hunted Print CoverJust a quick post (I’m supposed to be writing right now) to let you all see the cover for Hunted.

This is the print layout, so you can see the spine and back cover, but I haven’t gone in and added the sales copy yet.

What does everyone think?

I like it. I LOVE the font for the title and your name! And I like the idea of a consistent look to the covers. Yay!

      Hi, Janelle.

I’m glad that you like it! Katie and I have gone back and forth dozens of times on the font between Bound and Hunted. In the end I just loved the look of A Darkness Mirrored to go with any of the other fonts that we were considering. I’ve got a new cover for Bound too that I just haven’t had time to upload yet (Katie has been working like a champion) that changes my name so it’s the same font as the title.

I agree that having a similar look for all of the covers is key. The goal is for any of my fans to see the cover of a new book and know instantly that it’s one of mine. That means Katie is going to have to redo (again in many instances) some of our old covers, but hopefully the net result ends up being very positive and translates to more sales over the coming months and years.

      Hi, Mei.

Kami did end up looking older than 17 in this particular shot.

This was my first time putting together a photo shoot and it’s been a real learning experience. I probably should have asked for different makeup and hair than what I ended up asking for in this shot.

With the stock art that we’d been using before this it was nice that you knew exactly what you get before you ever have to open your wallet up, but you sometimes having a hard time finding anything you want. By doing our own photoshoot we got to compose the shots exactly how we wanted (blonde girl in a blue cheerleader outfit on a black background, but you don’t know for sure what you’ll get until after the photographer has touched up the pictures.

Neither option has been quite perfect, but I’m incredibly grateful to Kami and the rest of the crew for working through this first shoot with us.

I just noticed that this says “Dark Reflection” instead of “Dark Reflections” with an s. Was that intentional?

      Hi, Janelle.

Nope, that wasn’t intentional at all–thanks for pointing that out. By the time we get done with a cover it’s hard for me to pick out the problems that might still be there. My that time we’ve spent so much time going back and forth on the art, the fonts, the color, the effects that have been applied to the fonts and whatever else is going on that I don’t really even see the cover anymore when I look at it.

I’ll point that out to Katie and we’ll get a new version up on the blog and a new version loaded up to iBooks shortly after that.

      A great catch, thanks again!
